The second meeting of the European Rural Mobility Network of the European project “SMARTA-NET” took place in Bingen am Rhein, Germany.

During the event, held on October, 11th and 12th, 70 participants from 15 different countries gathered to discuss the role of mobility solutions in support of sustainable tourism in rural areas.

The first physical meeting was opened by the Project Manager of the project, Brendan Finn, followed by: Reiner Dölger, Head of Unit of the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of Traffic; Rafal Stanecki, representative of DG MOVE, European Commission; Pascale Van Doren, Team Leader of the EU Rural Pact Support Office; and Martin Schiefelbush, Head of the NVBW Competence Center.

This second ERMN meeting aimed to physically bring together representatives of municipalities and organisations to improve rural mobility, and promote sustainable transport solutions across Europe, with a significant focus on the ecotourism sector. In addition to the municipalities, others kind of organisations, involved in the planning and implementation of rural mobility, have also been welcomed to the event.

The next ERMN meeting will be held online on 31st January 2024, and will focus on the presentation of the guidance on integrating the rural dimension into existing Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs).
