Company history
The first assignments concerned defining the specifications for the development of UTC and traffic control systems, and management of the phase of supply procurement and contracting. In parallel, since its inception MemEx has been engaged in R&D programmes at European level (Transport Telematics and IST Information Society Technologies, THERMIE, JUPITER) and at Italian level (ALIFE Ministry of the Environment).
Subsequently MemEx consolidated its expertise in the provision of support for the realisation/management of works and the testing, commissioning and management of technological systems. As time went on, it extended its sphere of action to other ITS systems such as fleet control, user information systems, electronic ticketing systems, parking systems, shared mobility services, ride sharing services and logistics systems. MemEx has consistently expanded its competence in the different areas of activity, monitoring the ongoing technological evolutions and the emerging needs of Public Authorities and Mobility Operators/Managers.
To give some examples:
- fleet control: from real-time fleet monitoring requirements to the final balancing and certification of the service;
- electronic ticketing: from the definition of the specifications of the individual system to issues of interoperability between different systems and the definition of the specifications of the technological back-up for management of the integrated payment of various services;
- user information systems: from the management of infrastructures on board the vehicles and in the street to recently-developed services on web/text/mobile applications;
- logistics systems: the experience emerged in the context of “last mile” services in the city centres, and then spread out to interport and port services and to/from islands.
MemEx has also gained remarkable know-how about the evaluation of the operational and organisational impacts of zero/low emission vehicles (e.g., electric, hydrogen-based) in the conventional public transport services and beyond.
As a response to a specific and frequent requirement of transport operators, MemEx has developed specific “Knowledge based” supporting tools and software modules, namely CELSO and CERT&Info, for the planning, analysis, and monitoring of different public transport services and the validation and certification of their performances.
